10 Feb Too Late?
Don’t Hire Me Too Late!
One of the most important lessons that I’ve given to potential clients is not to hire a coach too late in the development of their businesses.
“But Matt, is there really such a thing as too late?”
There is as far as your opportunity to build your company with more ease and to have a pathway to early success! And I have a tragic example for you.
A new entrepreneur contacts a business coach ready to leave the 9 to 5 life behind and start a new business and be their own boss. Which is how every story starts, right?
Except this person had already quit her job and had no concrete business plan. There was no strategy for marketing and far from enough capital for the level of business launch that she was seeking.
The business still launched, but the dream did not come fully true yet. This particular business owner had to resort to doing it part-time while also working a part-time job, and the job is even less fulfilling than the one she left behind.
Will she be able to eventually do the business full time and reach her goals? Possibly so. But it will take more time for her to get to that point while balancing both jobs. And proper planning could have saved her a lot of pain in the process.
There’s a saying that entrepreneurship at times is like jumping out of a plan and building your parachute on the way down. In this case, the entrepreneur made the jump and waited until she was getting dangerously close to the ground before starting to build the parachute. She’ll survive the landing, but it still hurts a little!
The time to call a coach or consultant to begin your business strategy is the moment after you make the decision to start one. Doing some research, putting together a cohesive plan, and laying out your goals and a sequence of action steps will have you ready for a prosperous Day One and beyond.
So contact me when it’s time to start, but don’t wait until it’s too late!
